Digital Marketing Interview Questions
Short answer

Most interview questions are testing one thing: whether you have actually done the work or only read about it. Answer with specifics from campaigns you ran — numbers, decisions, what went wrong — and you separate yourself from most candidates immediately.

General questions

  • "What is digital marketing?"They are checking you can explain it simply. Do not recite a definition — describe the channels and how they connect to revenue.
  • "Which channel would you pick with a small budget?"Testing judgement. The right answer starts with "it depends on whether people are already searching for this" — search captures demand, social creates it.
  • "How do you measure success?"They want business metrics — leads, cost per acquisition, ROAS — not vanity metrics like impressions or followers.

SEO questions

  • "What is the difference between on-page and off-page SEO?"On-page is what you control on the site; off-page is authority earned elsewhere, mostly backlinks.
  • "A client's traffic dropped 40% last month. What do you check?"The best question on this list. Walk through it: algorithm update, indexing issues, technical changes, lost backlinks, seasonality, tracking breakage.
  • "How long does SEO take?"Three to six months for meaningful movement. Anyone who says 30 days is either lying or targeting keywords nobody searches.

Paid ads questions

  • "What is ROAS and what is a good number?"Revenue ÷ ad spend. "Good" depends entirely on margin — 2x can be profitable at 70% margins and ruinous at 20%.
  • "Your campaign has high CTR but no conversions. What is wrong?"The ad is working; the landing page or offer is not. Check message match, page speed, form friction and audience quality.

Digital Marketing Interview Questions — common questions

Prepare three campaigns you personally ran and can discuss in detail — what you did, what the numbers were, what went wrong and what you changed. That single preparation outweighs memorising definitions.

A portfolio: screenshots of ad accounts, ranking reports, content you wrote, before-and-after numbers. Interviewers remember evidence.
