ChatGPT Ads in Delhi: what businesses should know before spending

Delhi is not one market. A wholesale trader in Chandni Chowk, a D2C skincare brand run from an Okhla office, a coaching centre in Mukherjee Nagar and a café in Hauz Khas all sell to completely different people in completely different ways. So the question is not whether ChatGPT ads work in Delhi. It is whether they suit your kind of business, and what you should check before a single rupee goes in.

Check one: is your category even allowed?

Start with eligibility, because it removes a surprising number of Delhi businesses before any strategy discussion. OpenAI does not allow ads near sensitive or regulated topics, including personal health, mental health and politics, and political advertising is banned outright. That matters in a city where elections, parties and campaign consultants are a visible part of the advertising economy: none of it can run here.

Delhi’s private hospitals, multi-speciality clinics, IVF centres, therapists and diagnostic chains face the health restriction. OpenAI says some health advertisers may be eligible if they meet strict criteria, yet ads are still not placed near sensitive user content, which covers most conversations a patient actually has. Lenders, insurance agents and investment advisers fall under financial services, where eligibility also depends on strict criteria. If you are in any of these groups, read OpenAI’s policy first and assume a narrow or closed channel.

For everything else, the basics are in our ChatGPT Ads India guide: ads appear below answers, are labelled as sponsored, do not change the answer, and are chosen on context rather than bought keywords. OpenAI’s help centre lists a ₹725 minimum daily budget for INR billing as of October 2026.

Check two: do your customers think out loud before buying?

ChatGPT ads sit at the end of a considered answer. They suit purchases people talk through, with constraints, before deciding. Delhi has plenty of these.

  • Coaching and test preparation — an aspirant asking how to structure a year of civil services preparation while working, or which optional subject suits a commerce background.
  • D2C and ecommerce brands — someone asking for a skincare routine for Delhi’s dry winters, or how to pick an air purifier for a small bedroom.
  • Wedding and event services — a family asking how to plan a winter wedding in Delhi on a fixed guest list, or what to ask a caterer before booking.
  • B2B suppliers and wholesalers — a shop owner asking how to source packaging material in bulk, or what to check before ordering from a wholesale supplier.
  • Home services and interiors — a flat owner asking how to plan a kitchen renovation in an older DDA flat with limited space.

Check three: can you target the part of Delhi you serve?

OpenAI allows location targeting below country level, including states, cities, markets and postal codes, for most campaigns, but only where available, and availability varies by country. During setup, look at what the location options actually show for Delhi. Do not assume postal-code or neighbourhood-level control because the help centre mentions it in general terms.

The answer changes the plan. A D2C brand shipping across India barely cares, and country-level targeting may be fine. A café in South Delhi or a tuition centre in East Delhi cares a great deal, because a city-wide campaign will reach people an hour away in traffic. If the only option is all of Delhi, put the neighbourhood and service area in the ad copy, the context hints and the first line of the landing page, so the people who click are the ones who can realistically visit.

Check four: is your landing page ready for a conversation?

Delhi buyers compare hard, and someone who has just read a detailed answer will compare your page against what they learned. Context hints should describe the situation you serve in plain words: working professionals in Delhi preparing for competitive exams through weekend classes, or families planning winter weddings for a few hundred guests in West Delhi. Avoid keyword lists; OpenAI does not describe keyword bidding.

The page should pick up exactly where the chat left off. A coaching centre should show batch timings, the location and a demo-class booking. A D2C brand should open on the product category that matched, with delivery information and returns clearly shown. A wholesaler should state minimum order terms and a contact route. Users can message advertisers through an ad, and Delhi customers expect quick replies, so staff that inbox before launch.

Check five: will you be able to tell if it worked?

OpenAI gives advertisers aggregated reporting such as views and clicks, plus conversion events if you configure them. You will not see the conversations that triggered your ad. That makes your own tracking the deciding factor.

Use a dedicated landing page or tracked link, test the conversion event yourself before launch, and set a review date and a budget ceiling in advance. Compare the enquiries against what the same money produces on Google Search and Meta, which most Delhi businesses already run in some form.

Common questions

It depends on the category and on what is already working. ChatGPT ads suit purchases people talk through before deciding, such as coaching, D2C products, wedding services and some B2B supply. They are not available for political advertising and are heavily limited for health and some financial services.

Possibly, but check before relying on it. OpenAI says most campaigns can target below country level, including states, cities, markets and postal codes, but only where available, and availability varies by country. During campaign setup, see which location options appear for Delhi. If neighbourhood-level targeting is not offered, make your service area obvious in the ad copy, the context hints and the top of the landing page, so people who cannot realistically reach you are less likely to click.

No. OpenAI does not allow political advertising, and ads are not eligible to appear near political topics at all. That applies to parties, candidates and campaign messaging regardless of budget. Campaign teams in Delhi will need to rely on platforms whose political advertising rules permit it, following each platform’s verification and disclosure requirements. ChatGPT ads are also excluded from personal health and mental health topics, which affects hospitals, clinics and therapists in the city.
